During Octodad: Dadliest Catch, players have to deal with destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his life. Octodad’s existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family.
Upon returning from the local aquarium after a disastrous trip to his wife’s mistrust, our cephaloprotagonist finds himself in a pickle between her mounting mistrust and an insurmountable problem! You are the dad of the titular octopus dad trying to hide his nautical nature from his family without letting his tentacles tangle? Are you up to the challenge?
A group of university students released the original Octodad in October 2010. The game was a cult hit, gained critical acclaim, became a student finalist in 2011 at the Independent Games Festival despite the perception that the game was about a normal human dad. In response, the team decided to run a Kickstarter campaign, create the game studio Young Horses, and create an even bigger, better, more polished game about Octodad. Octodad: Dadliest Catch flops awkwardly into your arms two and a half years after production began.
